What's your favourite Christmas tradition?

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, isn't it? Just 7 days and 15 hours (not that we're counting)... Are you in full-on decorating mode? Wearing out your credit cards and giving the postman backache? Trying to contain the excitement of children anticipating a visit from Santa Claus? Collapsed in an exhausted heap on the sofa?
Well, now is the time for indulging in our favourite parts of the festive season. So What's your favourite Christmas tradition?

Show and tell

The girls beamed with pride when they arrived at the creche this
morning, and who could blame them? Everyone loves show-and-tell day!
Though it did get a bit crowded ...

With all this rain the little’uns are suffering a bit from
cabin-fever. I know from bitter experience that that can be dangerous in a room
full of exuberant girls, so I thought I’d better occupy them, or pay the price.

The Small British Bake-Off

Well, dears, your girls are most persuasive! Once Meet Me Under the Mistletoe mentioned baking to Santa, the others couldn’t have been more excited. I was a wee bit nervous about putting such little’uns in the kitchen, but as my Granny Dewey always said, it’s never too early to learn about the joys of the perfect pastry.

Little Picassos
Well, our little’uns have certainly enthusiastically
embraced the arts! When they found out they were going to paint, Meet Me Under the Mistletoe dove straight for the dressing up box and managed to fashion
petit Parisian left bank beret-and-go-go-boots ensembles, so that everyone
looked the part. Santa Maybe had a hard time keeping the beret out of her eyes,
since she’s such a wee pixie, but
With Love at Christmas hairpinned it in place
so that the poor little thing could see what she was doing.

A visit from Father Christmas

You can’t imagine the commotion at the crèche today when the
little’uns found out that a certain red-suited fellow would be visiting.
Actually, perhaps you can imagine,
since I’m afraid we did eat rather a lot of cookies and everyone is probably on
a sugar high well past their bedtimes. I’m sorry about that …
But never mind, we had a lovely day, dears, and everyone was
on their best behaviour (naturally). Saint Nick arrived to the jingle of sleigh
bells and you’ve never seen such a room full of wide-eyed wonder.

The Christmas Creche's first day
Well, writers, you did very well, dropping the books off this morning with almost no tears - no tears from the littl'uns, that is. Abby, dear, we hope you had enough Kleenex for the ride home, and Scarlett, rest assured that little Santa Maybekept her mittens on when we played outside. In fact, I can assure you that everyone enjoyed their first day immensely.

Welcome to The Christmas Creche!
I am Miss Dewey, and I run the Christmas Creche, for all the books born in time for the holidays. I am thrilled to welcome the Winter Class of 2012! Just look at them. Aren't they adorable with their wee little titles and perfectly angelic covers? Their authors must be very proud indeed.
I've been running the creche for more years than I care to admit, so I know a thing or two about it. Of course it's never easy for the book mothers to say good-bye to their babies on that first day. But once they settle in (the mothers I mean), they're always very grateful for the few hours of peace and quiet to write. They're a prolific bunch and always seem to have another one hatching.

Sure, there are tears, sticky outy lips and a few tantrums (again, the mothers, I mean) but I find that as long as I keep them up to date with nice little summaries about our days, they feel much better. So I've promised to post about everything that their lovely little'uns get up to. I can already see that I'll have my hands full with this group.
Welcome to the Christmas Creche- oh we are going to have fun together!
Kindest regards,
Miss Dewey
